Travel Books for Ecuador
I have been reading books about Ecuador for over
twenty-years. Furthermore, working on my book Culture Shock! Ecuador required
that I do an immense amount of reading about the country.
I have listed here a number of books I recommend
for anyone going to Ecuador. Culture Shock! Ecuador is my favorite probably
because I sweated so hard to write it. The books here have been listed in
association with Amazon.com. Any purchases you make here will be appreciated and
will help maintain the work on this site.
-
Culture
Shock! Ecuador by Nicholas Crowder - I worked on this book for nearly a
year and a half before it was finished. I spent over twenty years living and
visiting Ecuador collecting the information for the book. If you want to
know about the culture and how Ecuadorians think this is the book. It will
give you insight into aspects of the culture not known to many outsiders.
You clearly will have a deeper understanding of the country.
-
The
Traveler's Guide to the Galapagos Islands by Barry Boyce - This is an
excellent book for anyone going to the Galapagos. Mr. Boyce has run tours to
the islands for a number of years and is an excellent resource. He lists
many of the companies operating tours there and gives numerous
insights into this rare place on earth.
-
Ecuador
and the Galapagos Islands: the Ecotravellers' Wildlife Guide by Dr.
David Pearson - Dr. Pearson knows Ecuador intimately. He is a professor of
biology at Arizona State University and has been traveling to Ecuador for
over thirty years while conducting research. If you are an ecotraveler this
is the book for you. A very detailed and well written account of the
biodiversity of Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.
-
Living
Poor: A Peace Corps Chronicle by Moritz Thomsen - Mr. Thomsen now
deceased went to Ecuador as an adult and joined the Peace Corps. This guy
had some real testicles. He should have begun writing earlier in life. His
tails will give you great insight into Ecuador and the experiences of a
Peace Corps volunteer.
